Lane Architects are working with the Historic Environment Department of Cornwall Council to agree a suitable replacement modern porch extension for a Grade 2 listed house in Falmouth.
The initial proposal was for a contemporary timber clad box with a flat roof, which would contrast and highlight the historic Georgian façade.
After discussions with the Heritage Consultant a second option was proposed. While still a modern intervention this has a more formed and folded roof.
It is a common belief that making changes or additions to a Listed building can be problematic. It doesn’t have to be this way. If you or your architect are prepared to be open to a dialogue and an exchange of ideas with the Heritage Consultants, then often this exchange of ideas can lead to a more interesting design solution.
